VAT software for Switzerland: your return, ready to file
Mast computes VAT on every entry as you post it, prepares your return under the effective method and keeps it reconciled with your books. When the period ends, you transfer clear positions into the FTA portal, and your fiduciary can check everything first.
From daily postings to a return you can trust
All three current rates
Standard 8.1%, reduced 2.6% and the special 3.8% rate for accommodation, computed line by line at posting time. No period-end recalculation, no rate surprises.
Effective method
Mast prepares your periodic return under the effective method: VAT due on your sales, input VAT deducted on your purchases, every position derived from real entries.
Reconciled with the ledger
The return is built from your general ledger, not from a separate module. Return and books can never diverge, and every figure traces back to its entries.
Ready for the FTA portal
At the end of the period you get clear positions that map to the official return. You transfer them into the FTA portal without retyping or guessing; the filing itself stays in your hands.
Clean corrections
Posted entries are immutable. If something was booked wrong, you correct it with a reversal, and the return picks up the change with a full audit trail.
Fiduciary review built in
Invite your fiduciary with dedicated permissions. They check the return directly in your live books, request missing receipts in the app and sign off the period with you.
Your numbers arrive ready to file
Since 1 January 2025 the FTA requires VAT returns to be filed online. Mast prepares every position from reconciled books, so filing in the portal becomes a transfer, not an end-of-quarter reconstruction.
Frequently asked questions
Which VAT method does Mast support?
Mast prepares the return under the effective method, with VAT due and input VAT computed from your actual entries. The net tax rate method (Saldosteuersatz) is not supported. If you are unsure which method applies to your company, your fiduciary can confirm it.
Are the VAT rates up to date?
Yes. Mast applies the current Swiss rates: 8.1% standard, 2.6% reduced and 3.8% for accommodation, in force since 1 January 2024. Each line is computed at the rate that applies to it, at posting time.
How does the reconciliation with the ledger work?
Every position on the return is derived from posted entries in the general ledger, so the return and the books always show the same figures. You can trace any amount on the return back to the entries behind it. There is no separate VAT module to keep in sync.
Can my fiduciary review the return before I file it?
Yes. You invite your fiduciary with dedicated permissions, and they check the return directly in your live books, not on an exported copy. They can request missing receipts in the app and sign off the period with you.
What if I need to correct an entry after posting?
Posted entries in Mast are immutable, so a correction is recorded as a reversal plus a new entry. The return reflects the correction automatically, and the full history stays visible in the audit trail. Nothing is overwritten silently.
Is Mast compliant with Swiss accounting law?
Yes. Mast applies double-entry bookkeeping in line with the Swiss Code of Obligations (art. 957 ff.), with a Swiss SME chart of accounts, complete journals and an audit trail. Data is hosted in Switzerland, and Mast is certified swiss made software.
How much does Mast cost?
Mast runs on a per-company subscription, monthly or annual. Book a demo and we will show you the plan that fits the way you work.
Can I switch to Mast in the middle of a fiscal year?
Yes. You can switch to Mast during the year: your existing data carries over, from tools like bexio, Abacus, WinBIZ, Banana or Crésus, and our team supports you through the transition.
